Dear God. Thank you for Wildflour Bakery.

While working the Fairmount Farmer’s Market today I brought the girls at the booth next to ours, Wildflour Bakery, a liter of water and some ice to stave off the humidity. Okay so it might have had something to do with a cute worker named Jess, but that’s beside the point. As a show of gratitude I got something I’ve been missing since I moved to Philly, a wonderfully crusty free form, sliced loaf of really yummy sourdough bread.

Sourdough from Wildflour Bakery

Being from the Midwest I grew up munching on big loaves of crusty sourdough, and other dense European and Mexican breads. After my move to Philly I never been happy with the softer, chewier rolls and such common to the area.

Cold, the loaf from Wildflour was soft and crumbly inside with a understand start and a sharp finish and would be great with a soft cheese, butter or olive oil.

Once I got home, I decided to toast a couple of slices while pan frying albacore tuna in a little butter, oregano, basil, pepper, paprika, and salt. I then assembled a tuna melt with Monterry Jack and Colby cheese and grilled the sandwich on both sides.

Oh. My. Gawd.

TV On The Radio – Wolf Like Me at Roots Picnic, Philly

Sorry for the blurry start, but a good video anyway. Tunde Adebimpe is a very active vocalist and therefore is hard to follow on stage while folks in the crowd bump into you.

Roots Picnic

Writtenhouse killed their opening to a light crowd, Roots rocked out, Santigold blew the place to shreds with bass, and her great voice. Antibalas gained an new fan in me, Public Enemy owned as always, but were backed by Antibalas and the Roots band. TV On The Radio where on point and charismatic as always. Missed the finale as I was working the event. Downers, Kid Cudi was very underwhelming, and the presence of Asher Roth seemed pointless.

I regularly post my Linux desktop screenshots in an attempt to show others just how versitile and user friendly Linux has become. I recently switched back to Ubuntu and as usual I’m running Gnome. The background is a picture I took over the Spring Garden St. bridge of the  Schuylkill River heading south toward Center City Philadelphia while riding a SEPTA bus. The system monitor is my adaptation of Conky/Conky-Colors

JinnFire Supports Arts Education at Pigeon Arts

JinnFire is based on a respect for art in many forms, and without the guidance provided by other artists our passions would not reach as many people as it could. Organizations like Pigeon Arts are an invaluable resource for the Philadelphia arts community, and JinnFire is very proud to be the first member of it’s sponsorship program.

With in depth private or group based art instruction & workshops run by Jesse White, artist & owner, Pigeon Arts has provided creative programming to more than 180 individuals of all ages, and backgrounds. Pigeon Arts provides a wide range of creative programs for the general public, life-long artists, as well as special communities and organization.

Some of their programs include promoting healing for families affected by homicide & domestic violence, and to other disenfranchised/marginalized communities including: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender individuals, and mental health diagnosed, developmentally disabled, drug & alcohol dependent and chronically homeless consumers.

Times are tight economically, and while we understand this, the importance of quality arts education can never be overstated. With many schools cutting arts programs, organizations like Pigeon Arts are worth your investment.  Please see their sponsorship page for details on levels of sponsorship and the perks of each giving level.

If you are in the Philadelphia area and interested in arts education for yourself, a friend or your organization please contact Jesse White for details.

You may also consider purchasing a print of Jesse’s amazing art work as these sales also provide valuable support.
